While you are learning to decorate here are some tips that just might be of help to you. First don’t try to decorate different sizes or shapes. Start out with a simple square cake which is 9 inches x 9 inches or an oblong size 9 inches x 12 inches and these pans are usually 2inches deep. You want to make sure you have smooth edges, if you have bumpy edges or dry crust, you can use a knife to make it smooth, it’s much easier to decorate.

Always let your cake cool before decorating. Decorating it when it’s still hot will just melt your icing. When you apply your icing it is the base for you to decorate later. To add special effects you can use a decorating bag with a decorating tip and decorate your edges of your cake. Aside from icing you can buy numerous toppers from a bakeshop or specialty stores.
